FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about who we are, how we work, and how to get involved with Pathways Policy Institute.

What is Pathways Policy Institute (PPI)?

PPI is a community-based policy and accountability non-profit organisation, Meaningfully Engaging Communities (MEC) on Population Dynamics, Health, Environment, and Climate Justice. We help communities influence primary health, sexual reproductive health, and environmental policies through research, training and capacity strengthening, using a Primary Health Care (PHC) lens.

What does "Meaningfully Engaging Communities" actually mean?

It means communities aren't treated as passive beneficiaries who are simply consulted. We work to give community members and advocates the knowledge, skills and platforms to actively participate in shaping the policies and decisions that affect their own lives — across population dynamics, health, environment and climate justice.

What is a "Primary Health Care (PHC) lens"?

It's the framework we use to connect health outcomes to the wider community and environmental systems around them, rather than treating health in isolation. In practice, it means our health, environment and climate work is designed around strengthening community-level health systems first, so they can respond to the challenges communities actually face.

Is PPI affiliated with a political party, government or religious group?

No. PPI is an independent, non-partisan and non-religious entity. We work alongside government institutions, civil society, researchers and community groups, but we are not aligned with or funded to represent any political or religious agenda.

Where does PPI work?

We're based in Nanyuki, Kenya, and work with community advocates, civil society organisations and county governments across several counties. Our programme and project work stays county-anchored so that policy engagement is grounded in the realities of the specific communities involved.

What kind of programs does PPI run?

Our work spans initiatives like the JASIRI Youth Champions Initiative, The IKO Project, Civic Education, Capacity Strengthening, Social Accountability, the TAAC Project, our Young Adolescent programme, the Participatory Arts-Camp Graphic Novel, and consultancies for partner organisations. Each one connects back to our core focus areas: population dynamics, health, environment and climate justice.

How can my organisation partner with PPI?

We welcome partnerships with civil society organisations, government institutions, researchers, youth networks and other stakeholders who share our commitment to community-led policy change. Reach out through our Partner With Us page or contact us directly to start the conversation.

I'm a young person — how can I get involved?

Programmes like the JASIRI Youth Champions Initiative and our Young Adolescent programme are built specifically to train and support young advocates. Check our Careers and Get in Touch pages for current openings, volunteer opportunities and how to apply.

How can I support or donate to PPI's work?

You can support our work directly through the Donate button in the site header, or get in touch to discuss funding a specific programme or partnership. Every contribution goes toward strengthening community health systems and advocacy capacity on the ground.
