About Us

Our Brief But Rich History

Pathways Policy Institute (PPI) is a community-based policy and accountability non-profit organisation in Kenya working at the intersection of population, health, environment and climate justice. Established to strengthen the connection between communities, evidence and decision-making, PPI works to ensure that people, particularly those whose voices are often underrepresented, can meaningfully participate in policies and processes that affect their lives. Over the years, the organisation has built experience in research, policy analysis, advocacy, capacity strengthening and community engagement, working with communities, civil society organisations, young people and government stakeholders.

Since its establishment, PPI has grown its work from community-level engagement to broader policy and accountability initiatives across Kenya. Its history is rooted in the belief that sustainable change requires more than policies being developed at national or county level.  Through initiatives focused on health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, youth empowerment, civic education, health budget advocacy and social accountability, PPI has supported communities and advocates to engage with decision-makers and contribute to public policy processes.

Building Evidence, Strengthening Communities, Influencing Policy

Our work has expanded to address the interconnected challenges of health, population, environment and climate change. We conduct research, undertake policy and budget analysis, develop evidence-based recommendations, strengthen the capacity of civil society and youth advocates, and create spaces for meaningful dialogue between communities and decision-makers.

Our programmes span Universal Health Coverage, primary healthcare, family planning, maternal and child health, adolescent and youth health, climate justice, public participation and county health financing. By combining evidence with lived community experiences, we seek to bridge the gap between research and action, enabling communities and advocates to influence policies, shape public priorities and strengthen accountability.
